Composite Resin Fillings

Sometimes simply described as white fillings, in recent years they have become the most commonly used filling material.  We primarily use products from the 3M company (the Scotch Tape people), the leading manufacturer in the field.  Lasts well in non-stress bearing areas (front teeth); does not last as well in stress bearing areas (back teeth).  Lasts well in very small fillings; does not last as well in large fillings.  Our best looking filling material; our least durable filling material.  Correct technique when placing them is critical to success; even when placed correctly, the critical "bond to dentin" starts to weaken when only 3 to 4 years old, making future failure inevitable.

When composite is chosen because of its attributes, some compromises come with it - which is true for any filling material.  Below, before and after pictures of a cavity restored with composite resin by Dr. Knox.
